Delano Transfer Station Director

The Transfer Station Director is appointed by the Mayor and works under the direction of the City Clerk/Treasurer. Performs all the duties associated with the daily operations of the Delano Transfer Station.

Transfer Station Director responsibilities include:

  • Receives municipal solid waste delivered by contract haulers and the general public. Conduct the weighing, (in/out) of vehicles, collect tipping fees from customers and give other assistance as needed.
  • Educate the public regarding recycling and household wastes. Gives directions and inspections of waste deliveries, diverting recyclables and household waste.
  • Communicate with contract haulers to plan for projects that generate more waste than normal. 
  • Ensure the Transfer Station site is maintained, including the removal of snow and ice.
  • Attends all regular and special Regional Board of Mayors meetings, study sessions and other meetings as required.
  • Prepares a variety of studies, reports and related information for decision making purposes.
  • Communicates official plans, policies and procedures to staff. Regional Board of Mayors and the general public.
  • Prepares and delivers reports to various county and state agencies as required.
  • Performs, trains and /or assists subordinates in performing duties, adjusting errors and complaints.
  • Oversee balancing and accounting of the Delano Transfer Station cash drawers, including credit accounts and cash.
  • Conducts safety meetings and maintains records.
  • Research's issues for compliance with federal, state and local laws.
  • Monitor landfill site for compliance.
  • Collect quarterly groundwater samples from monitor wells. Maintain logbooks.
  • Monitor landfill gas wells, calibrate and maintain equipment and logbooks.
  • Manages the safe operation of all Delano Transfer Station equipment.
  • Drive tractor-trailer combination to haul solid waste to county landfill.
  • Performs general maintenance and repairs on all equipment and facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Mayor or designee.
